ASST is very active in developing geophy-sical technology, from modifying and build-ing bespoke equipment and software to creating innovative solutions to a wide range of problems.
Our consultants have been keenly involved in a number of initiatives, from building a low environmental impact marine refraction system to the remote collection of GPR using an autonomous vehicle where the danger of cavities prevented access.
 
We are also allied with Geomole Pty Ltd, the  leading developer of Borehole radar (BHR) technology.

RAIL ASSESSMENT
Through the use of high-speed ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), ASST is capable of providing detailed trackbed (ballast) information indicating.
- Thickness of working ballast (3 measure- ments on left, centre and right of track);
- Level of ballast fouling;
- Drainage condition; and,
- Location of ballast pockets.
ASST's staff have a history of working on thousands of kilometres of track, delivering solutions to many of Australia's railways. Working in close coordination with maintenance personnel, ASST can help optimise maintenance programs by focusing spending on key areas. By using ASST's unique trackbed management system you can potentially reduce remediation works, remove temporary speed restrictions and provide a safer environment.

DOWNHOLE SEISMIC PROFILING
  • Downhole seismic represents a simple and cost effective method to determine the in – layer velocity structure of the subsurface. Energy is generated at the surface using both P – Wave and S – Wave sources and the travel times of the first arrivals are measured at regular intervals down the hole. The resulting data can be used to calculate the dynamic shear modulus and Poisson's ratio

DOWNHOLE EM MODELLING
  • Downhole EM is a technique where a transmitter loop is laid on the surface which induces a current in the ground and a tri-axial receiver is utilised to acquire secondary field data from conductive bodies such as nickel and massive sulphide ore bodies. The data can be modelled in 3-dimensional space which enables the processor to develop a drill plan where mineral intersections can be made with high confidence.

  • Many borehole tools contain magnetic sensors, the data from which can be processed to quickly provide low resolution targets through 3D modelling without collecting specific geophysical data. Utilise the data you already have (e.g. from gyro or reflex tool surveys) to make exploration more efficient.
